Let's Talk... Food

Just another manic Monday!

Once a month I link up with Erika from A Little Bit of Everything and Andrea from Momfessionals.  This month we are talking about what has been cooking in our kitchen lately.

I have been really working on making healthy hearty meals for my family.  I try to focus on quick, simple, easy, kid friendly stuff and I have been having huge success with Mix and Match Mama's new cookbook EATS.  I just got it in the mail last week and I have made so many wonderful recipes.

Cooking for a family is sometimes challenging.  Throw in a bathroom remodel and a boys bedroom renovation and it becomes near impossible some days.

When life gets busy we order out.  This particular night we both were so exhausted so we got chinese.  I was curled up on the couch reading a book when Matt walked in with a plate of chicken fingers in the shape of a heart!  I laughed!

I am slowly starting to realize that I have two boys.  If you are a mama to boys you know what it is like to feed these guys.  I have run out of milk two weeks in a row and we can eat an entire package of berries in one sitting.  Having fresh berries on the counter is always a necessity in our house.

Strawberry salads have been on rotation for lunch.  They are light and refreshing and remind me of my wedding day.  We had the best organic strawberry salads.  It was one of the most talked about moments of the wedding.

The boys and I made Halloween cookies!

The lion breakfast has been a big favorite lately.

Every spring we buy a cow to raise and butcher for meat.   We have so much meat in our freezer.  I probably cook red meat more than I should but we love it.  We also got a pig so we rotate between beef, pork and chicken.  This particular steak I was marinating in Trader Joe's brown sugar bbq sauce and it was delicious.  We grilled it and all four of us shared this giant steak.

Mix and Match Mama's chicken bites from her cook book EATS.

& her butternut squash soup.  So delicious and easy.  I have made this soup a few times and each time  I adjust the ingredients just a tad and each time it is delicious.

I had an extra butternut squash and decided to just bake it, sauté some veggies and make my own soup in my vitamin.  It was perfect for the crisp cool fall day we were having.

My garden totally surprised me.  I had a few peppers and a bunch of tomatoes.  I was super excited.  I cut them up and grilled them to add to a pasta dish I threw together.  You can usually find me doing this towards the end of the week when I am running low on groceries and I need to use up some veggies before they go bad.

This dish I grilled up some onions, zucchini and garlic.  Made a quick garlic butter cream sauce, threw it all over some linguini and bam, dinner done.

That is about it for what has been in my kitchen lately.  Hope you all have a safe and Happy Halloween!

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday friends!

I am linking up with Erika, Narcy and Andrea and sharing my favorites of the week.

We have a low key relaxing weekend in store and I am pretty pumped about it!

one

I mentioned in my What's Up Wednesday post that I am really into wearing jeans, sweaters, and sneakers lately.  These Nikes are super cute and comfortable.

two

Earlier this week my Keurig totally failed.  I could tell for a while that something was going wrong.  It would take longer for the coffee to brew and seemed to be really loud and make this strange hum sound.  One morning she just decided to give up on me.  I went to Kohls later that day and came home with this baby.  The best part is that you can use the touch button to make your coffee a tad bit stronger if you need that extra pick me up.  I am still trying to get used to the touch screen but so far she is a beauty.

three

I love blanket scarfs.  You can never have enough.  They go with everything and they double as a baby blanket.  Win. Win.

four

I made butternut squash soup this week from Mix and Match Mama's new cook book EATS.  It was delicious and just perfect for these chilly fall days that we are having.

five

Evan was the news reporter at school on Monday.  This was so sweet and I loved reading this.  He is so thoughtful!  #familyhugs

six

I sent Matt to target the other day for Neutrogena make up remover.  Now, as most of you might guess I was looking for the blue boxed make up wipes but he came home with this.  I have to say, I am pleasantly surprised.  I really like it.

seven

Evan and I made almond joy cookies after school this week.  They were so easy and so delicious.  The best part is Matt doesn't like coconut so more for us!

The winner of my Stonyfield Yogurt giveaway is...

Tania Dency & Susie Cornwall

WooHoo!

I just emailed you.  Email me back with your address.

Happy Friday.  See ya'll Monday.

Fall Footwear

We are smack dab in the middle of fall around here and I thought I would share with you some of my favorites that I am wearing and loving.  I have sadly started putting away the flip flops and open toe shoes but occasionally we do still have those warm sunny days... & I love them.

I love that you can still wear skirts with sweaters & ankle showing jeans.

I love my Sperry Duck Boots from Nordstrom.  They are so stylish yet so practice  (similar here)  They even look cute when you wear a camp sock and let the top hang out.

Also, we need to admire these Natasha sole society boots.  They are so comfortable and come in so many different colors.  I have the washed navy color and the army color.

Unfortunately these booties from Sole Society are sold out but you can find a similar pair here.

I think these booties give off a western style flare.  I love the detailing on the side and the heal hight isn't that high.  You can feel comfortable wearing these out running errands or transitioning out for date night.  They come in two colors, cement and black.

(mine are sold out but you can find similar here)

I have also been a huge fan of wearing sneakers, jeans and sweaters.  Sneakers add such a fun element to style.  It is a fun festive party on the top and a casual laid back style on the bottom.

Zappos has a great selection of New Balance.  They have a great return policy.

These boots are super comfortable.  They are soft and have a low heel height.  They go with everything.  I love the buckle detailing on the side.

I just ordered these boots.  I haven't got them yet but I hope that they are as cute in person as they are online.  They also come in a few colors.

These boots are the perfect height to show your ankle if you are short like me.  Sometimes I struggle with that and I don't think that ankle booties look good if you can't see your ankle.  These boots are just perfect for us short girls. They are a bit more expensive but so worth it.  They are soft and when broken in are so comfortable.  They don't have this color anymore but you can get the other three colors here.  Nordstrom has a great return policy so if these boots aren't for you no fear.  Free shipping and returns!

Lastly I wanted to share with you two ankle boot looks that I love.  I love white jeans and it certainly doesn't mean now that we are passed September we have to put them away.  Winter white is a thing and I plan on embracing it.  Add a cute pair of broken in, worn booties and you have yourself an outfit!

Let me just share with you one of my favorite open toe bootie inspirations.  These are on my list for spring.  I love this color and the detailing is so cute.  I can't wait to get my hands on these beauties.

Speaking of spring we need to talk about that dreaded season coming up.  I know a lot of you love winter and snow fall and yes, I do to.  I just don't like to drive the kids to school, shovel, take care of our animals or do anything else that resembles work outside in the snow.  I love to relax in it and admire it but dressing for it sometimes is a challenge.

With the colder weather coming I thought I should start thinking of those winter months when wearing ankle showing booties just won't work.  So when I was asked by King Ranch Saddle Shop to create a wishlist of boots for this coming season I just couldn't say no.

As most of you know I am obsessed with my Frye boots.  Although, I don't ride horses anymore that doesn't mean my love for riding is gone and after going through King Ranch's website it brought me back to the days where me and my mom would trail ride for hours.  I may have to put a pair of my button boots from Frye away and break out a pair of these beauties.

If you are looking to purchase something for your husband or boyfriend I think these are so cute.  I love the distressed brown leather and the stitch design.  Plus, they are on sale!!

These tassle riding boots are on sale right now and I am obsessed over the gold detailing.

So there you have my little wish list from King Ranch Saddle Shop.  Just because you don't have horses or ride doesn't mean you can't look stylish in western style riding boots.

Tomorrow is Friday -WOW.    We have some fun pumpkin carving happening around here and then we will be preparing for some trick or treat fun.

Also, if you haven't, check out my recipe for a healthy berry smoothie.... I am giving a way a fun surprise with Stonyfield.  Enter for your chance to win.

What's Up Wednesday

Yay, Wednesday!  We are halfway through the week!  Woot Woot.

The last Wednesday of the month I link up with Mel, Sheaffer and Shay.

Each month we answer these questions...

I can't wait to go through and read what ya'll have been up to.  Don't forget to link up.

What we're eating this week...

I made Shay's pumpkin & sausage pot pie and it was delicious.  The boys favorite was the biscuit on top but non the less, the filling was delicious.  It was easy, comforting and very satisfying.

What I'm reminiscing about...

I am reminiscing about our last summer vacation we took to the Vineyard.  It was so fun, and warm... and we all had a blast.

We just got hit today with some really crisp cool air and it really made me miss my flip flops.

What I'm loving...

How cute is this little tote bag?  I am using it for everything.  I keep it in my purse and it makes things so much more organized.  I love that I don't have to fish around my bag for anything.

What we've been up to...

We use oil heat but we also have a wood stove.  So with a wood stove, comes needing to cut and split wood.  Thankfully, Daddy has two little helpers to get the job done a little faster.

The boys love helping their dad.

What I'm dreading...

Enough said.

What I'm working on...

I am working on trying out some new fall / winter recipes.  I am looking to make quick, easy, kid friendly, delicious recipes.  I don't want to spend a lot of time in the kitchen because lets face it, we mom's don't have a lot of time.  I will hopefully have a lot of yummy recipes to report back to you with.

What I'm excited about...

We just booked a trip to the Great Wolf Lodge.  Have you ever been?  I know the boys will love it and what better way to spend a cold winter day...

What I'm watching/reading...

I just jumped on the THIS IS US bandwagon.  I started the show when it first came out and didn't finish watching the first episode... then a girlfriend of mine told me to go back and watch it and I am so glad I did.  Please Please, watch this show.  I know you will love it.

What I'm listening to...

Matt is sitting next to me on the couch watching his go pro videos of himself racing.  If you have ever been to a dirt bike race then you know that sound I am talking about.  That never ending buzzing sound.

What I'm wearing...

I have been really into wearing sneakers and sweaters lately.  It is the perfect recipe for cozy.  I like that I can still show a little ankle (like the hope of warm weather isn't totally gone) but that I can cover up on top and be warm and cozy.  Plus - throw on a blanket scarf and I am good to go.

What I'm doing this weekend...

We are carving our pumpkin that we picked.  It is so fun to do this with the kids but it isn't fun when the pumpkin doesn't make it until halloween before it starts rotting out.  So we wait until closer to halloween to do our carving.  After we are done carving I usually bake a few batches of pumpkin seeds.

What I'm looking forward to next month...

I plan on getting all my shopping done.  I want it done, wrapped and put it away... so I can enjoy the weeks leading up to Christmas.  Can I do it?!?!  Yes I can (I hope)

What else is new...

Matt will be leaving before Thanksgiving so we are going to have our family dinner earlier than the rest of the world. I have already started picking up cute pieces for my dinner table and pinning amazing recipes!

Bonus Question:  Favorite halloween picture?

I made Evan's scuba costume a few years ago and I was so proud of myself and he totally loved it.  Ryan was just born so I dressed him up as a shark.  It was the cutest.

Thanks for stopping in.  Have a great day, see you tomorrow.
